Another unit, and thoughts

I've been painting into the night, and I finished my Fenrisian Wolf unit. This means I'm caught up on my 2010 painting resolution, with plenty of time before next month. Maybe next weekend I can start another unit of Troops of two to begin fielding more of a fully painted army. I only need to leave 1 Troop for the upcoming month that requires them for my resolution.

I played two games today with my 2000 point Wolf Lord list. Similar to the list I have been playing for a few games now, also running with 4 Grey Hunter squads. First game I forgot to assault with my WL, and he got shot up by the Tau. I still demolished the Tau pretty soundly, but some unlucky game end rolls prolonged the game and my opponent had the time to contest and end in a Draw in Capture and Control.

My second game really gave a glimmer of hope for future use of the Thunder Wolf WL. I played an Annihilation game against Dark Angels and tabled them. The Wolf Lord did seriously well. His performance in the game is making me rethink wanting to get some Thunder Wolf Cavalry asap. These are the models I am thinking about getting now. The Mr Dandy models are just too big I think. These ones are sold on EBay (not my models):

The list played well. In the first game the 4 Troops choices (10 man squads) really game me the ability to win the game, though I couldn't capitalize. The second game the Long Fangs were excellent, the Lone Wolf did well, and the WL made me think there still is a place for him in my list.

Good gaming for a Saturday at the GW store.

Wolf Scouts emerge!

I finally finished the unit I should have painted in March for my painting resolution. I'm glad I did, because I really like how they turned out and they are a unit I generally include in my army list.

I like to always Outflank my Wolf Scouts with Behind Enemy Lines. They are great for getting at those deep enemy line units, like Devastators, tanks who are launching long range fire, and other units the enemy is "hiding" far away from you. I usually attach a Wolf Guard who has a power fist and combi melta equipped. I don't run too many combi weapons, but this is one unit that I HAVE to run one.

So here they are, and I am one unit closer to catching up to my failed resolutions.

Second Lone Wolf conversion

I picked up a thunder hammer Terminator from the Space Hulk boxed set, planning on making him my First Company Captain for my Ultramarines. I don't play Codex marines anymore, so I converted the model into an interesting Lone Wolf with a thunder hammer who would normally focus on Monstrous Creatures (where the chain fist Lone Wolf would focus on armored vehicles). So here he is, first as received, then as originally modified, and now the current after final modifications including a new thunder hammer weapon and storm shield arm.

Thunder From Fenris review

A zombie plague blights the ice world of Skorbad, a planet that is ravaged by war. A heroic band of Space Wolves are sent in to break the deadlock, but these are not just any sons of Leman Russ - that are thunderwolf riders, an ancient brotherhood, warriors of myth and legends.

During the hunt for the corrupted propagators of the plague, one of the Space Wolves succumbs to the wulfen curse. Suddenly it isn't just zombies that these feral heroes face in the darkness. Amid the ruins of Skorbad, the Space Wolves must save their fallen brother before a much more horrifying truth is revealed.

I just finished the Thunder From Fenris audiobook. If you are a Space Wolf fan in any way I would recommend it. The voice acting is very good, and the sound effects aren't distracting (actually, they add to the story quite well). Listening makes me want to go order the resin Thunderwolves I have been eyeballing. Toby Longworth does a great job voicing the wolves as the space viking-like super humans they are. My only complaint is the length, it's too short! Such an excellent audiobook is only 75 minutes.

4 out of 5 stars.

June's done already?

I finished my June painting resolution in 2 days! Good. That gives me plenty of time to work on other units in the army... units I failed to do in March and April. So here is June's Lone Wolf, one of my favorite models to include in my army list. Plans for the rest of the month are an Elite and Fast Attack choice to catch up, probably 5 Wolf Scouts and 10 Fenrisian Wolves.

Podcast Addiction!

I've officially become addicted to Warhammer 40k Podcasts. Over the past few days I've downloaded 20-30 different podcast episodes and I am listening to them at work to keep my thoughts on 40k (as if it isn't on 40k enough). What spurred all of this interest in podcasts is the 40k Fight Club's very own brand new podcast: Fight Night! Fight Night is also available on iTunes. Following the announcement that 40k Radio is going off the air, unfortunately, I also became a fan opf their show. Here are the podcasts I have been downloading and listening to so far. Post your favorites!

Charity Army Raffle

"The Great Storm Wardens Collaborative Army Build and Charity Raffle"

Some of the largest Warhammer 40k Blog sites out there are working together on a charity army raffle for Doctors without Borders.

The Storm Wardens are a new Space Marine chapter from the yet to be released Deathwatch RPG. Together with Games Workshop, Fantasy Flight Games (Horus Heresy, Wings of War) has been developing the game which will be released this summer.

They approached the folks designing the Death Watch game while planning this project, and told them we were thinking of building a Storm Wardens army, and they loved the idea. They have been working with us in getting the look of the army just right and giving us some great unreleased background and imagery.

They are going to build a large Storm Wardens Space Marine army with a decked out HQ, Tactical Marines, Veterans, Scouts, Terminators, and a bunch of vehicles, an army that any commander would be proud to field.

We will be able to see the army units come together and follow the army build progress through links to all the builders blogs on their "Storm Wardens" mini blog roll.

Who will be working on the army?
Mike & John (Santa Cruz Warhammer)
Thomas Wynn (Wynn Studios)
Ron Saikowski (From the Warp)
Mister Justin (Secret Weapon Miniatures)
Mik (Miks Minis, Barter Bucket)
and Dave Taylor

Along with the blogger build team, we are going after some hobby retailers to give up some loot to add to the army prize. Secret Weapon Miniatures is donating all the custom bases, and Chessex has already sent us the custom dice.
