Everything BUT Warhammer

It's the week of Blood in the Sun II and I have been playing all of my hobby games EXCEPT Warhammer. Well that's not entirely true, I did play a close game last Saturday losing to Light Slaan Lizardmen 11-9. So what else have I been doing? Malifaux and Warmahordes, of course.

The Warmachine Steamroller League is in full swing, and I am sitting at an unlikely 2-2 which I am very happy with. I have also picked up a few more models, my favorite of which was a Rök conversion kit, and an oop metal Dire Troll which I used to convert Rök. Much better than the plastic version, imo:

I then spent a LOT of time this week trying to reboot Malifaux at our house. I spent time cleaning the computer / gaming room and making room for another 3x3 Malifaux / Terraclips setup. I wanted to make the board different and more intriguing this time, and added a second street level with supports, and a 3 story house with basement access from the ground level. I thought it was a cool idea, and it turned out very well:

Here is the ground floor, and basic framework. It took a while to line up the streets.

The second tier starts to show all of the balconies which will make the games much more interesting.
Lord Chomppy Bits for scale reference (on a 50mm round base)

The final table turned out very cool.

Combined I used 2 Buildings kits and 1 Streets kit from Terraclips, with 3 boxes of clips (and every single L-clip I had). The roofs and chimneys really finish off the look, which my previous table did not have. We are in the middle of the first game for the Malifaux Summer Campaign on the table and so far the layout has been very cool. We are already fighting in the buildings, n the elevations, and making good use of the cover.

I am currently on the ropes with my Seamus crew (Seamus, Avatar, 3 Belles, Sybell, Dead Rider) vs Andrea's Arcanists (Rasputina, Essence of Power, 2 Silent Ones, Kaeris, 3 Fire Gamin) but Seamus is about to transform and the Dead Rider is about to flank! We'll see how it turns out.

Also, I've been working on finishing up the Kirai crew. Picked up a few more models and pinned them this weekend.

This weekend is BITSII. Keep an eye on Twitter for updates, and I will be posting a report upon my return!

Arcane Ruins

My Blood in the Sun terrain piece is complete. It is more of a quick fill-in to enter into the terrain contest and earn me a re-roll token at the event, but ultimately it is meant to match my Tomb Kings army with an entire Arcane Ruins setup throughout the army. I will probably use it on the display board for the Tomb Kings far down the road.

I ended up going with some advice from Twitter and using a Vermin Brown basecoat, overbrush Tausept Ochre, then drybrush Bleached Bone.

Tomb Kings terrain / filler

With Blood in the Sun coming up, I have a few more things to finish up. The first and most important is my last horde movement tray for the Plague Monks. I need it for my army to be complete. But, next up is my terrain piece for the Terrain Contest at BITS. I picked up an Arcane Ruins set from GW with the intention of not only making a matching piece of terrain for my Tomb Kings army, but also use the smaller pieces as unit fillers throughout. So lets have a look. I need to get this thing painted soon, so hopefully I will have updated pictures or WIP pics soon:

Smaller and without a "base" I would normally put on my terrain pieces. I am hoping this makes the piece easier to fit onto different themed tables.

And here are the pieces I really like. 2 Necro Knights with ruin pieces. One is burrowing under and coming up from under a pillar. A Khemrian Warsphynx climbing over a ruin piece. 3 Skeletons on pillar pieces as inner unit fillers. And finally just a ruined pillar I could use as a filler somewhere if I choose.

Planetstrike Terrain Project

I finally got some pictures of the terrain I've been building, painting, and using for the Planetstrike League. The minimum for the league is 1 Bastion and 1 Aegis Defense Line of your own for each game, in addition of the plethora of club terrain found at Pandemonium. So far many people have brought their own terrain, and combined with the club and store terrain have put together some great looking battlefields (see previous Planetstrike posts).

First up are my finished bastions. I have 2 bastions and 4 aegis defense lines fully painted, which also gives me 4 autocannon interceptor guns, and 2 lascannon interceptor guns.

I've also been using some craters I bought at Pandemonium, and the Games Workshop Blast Scape set of vac-form terrain. I went to Home Depot and bought some hard board and stenciled on the outlines of the terrain pieces. I then cut them out and mounted the terrain to the hard board with epoxy. The plan is to base the edges, and then prime and paint in a similar scheme as my Ultramarine's bases. So far it has worked great, and while they are more bulky to transport, they are a much higher quality to use on the tabletop.

Also, I changed the name of the blog! Since it has become more of a hobby blog than an Ultramarines WIP diary, I've renamed the blog 'Rhellion's Tabletop' from the former name '4th Company'. It also helps that I found another blog already named 4th Company. I didn't want to rain on his parade. Haha.

New additions, nothing finished

I know why I can't seem to get anything new finished lately... I keep getting more projects started without finishing old ones! I did finish my Planetstrike bastions and defense lines in time for week 1, and I started basing and priming the GW blastscape and some craters that I used successfully in my last setup for period 1.

I also got in an order of magnets! 100 rare earth magnets for $16 shipped. These should last me for a while. I've already started getting to work magnetizing my new attack bikes that served me well in period 1 game 2 of Planetstrike, sneaking a win by charging through dangerous terrain to capture the second objective.

I also have a couple WIP pics of the scouts I have been working on here and there. Not finished yet, but more than just the base coat I have been applying to most everything else. I'd rather be playing with a plain blue army than plain gray plastic, or black primer!
